Existing Heist Movie Taglines
I want to use taglines on my poster, in my trailers and on my website as taglines seem to be a common convention of a film's promotional campaign. Below are a number of taglines from existing heist movies, which will help me when deciding on a tagline for my own film.
Now I've looked at all of the above I have found that taglines for heist movies often share a number of similarities, such as:
Baby Driver
The Bank Job
The Thieves
Heat
Inception
Inside Man
The Italian Job
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Logan Lucky
Dead Presidents
Entrapment
Jackie Brown
Now You See Me
Ocean's 8
Ocean's Eleven
Ocean's 13
Ocean's Twelve
Reservoir Dogs
The Lookout
Out of Sight
Point Break
Set It Off
Sexy Beast
Snatch
Tower Heist
The Town
The Score
The Thomas Crown Affair
The Usual Suspects
Now I've looked at all of the above I have found that taglines for heist movies often share a number of similarities, such as:
- they create a sense of mystery
- they often make a direct address to the audience, using the words "you", "you'll" or "you're"
- they use words associated with the heist genre such as "thief", "stealing", "robbery" and "crime"
- they often make references to money or jewels
- they often have a suggestion that events might not go to plan
- there is often a reference to revenge
- they often suggest that characters cannot be trusted
- there is often reference to the criminals being caught or hunted
- sometimes the taglines are split into three sections
I am going to consider these conventions when I write a number of possible taglines for my own film.
